Ergonomics is a word that was coined at the turn of the century when we went from using animals to the Industrial Age, using machines. Ergonomics is the interaction of a person with a machine, so as to not do bodily harm. In the case of keyboarding, it is how a person sits, types and interacts with the keyboard so that they are comfortable. Ergonomics includes table/desk height, chair height, eye level with the screen, exercises and body and hand position. KEYTIME strongly emphasizes principles of ergonomics by making sure the student understands proper finger positioning, ergonomic finger paths and incorporates frequent stretches and exercises.
Why are ERGONMIC finger paths important?
For over one hundred years, finger paths have been taught with fingers traveling up to the left and down to the right. This creates a strain on the left wrist. Split keyboards have attempted to eliminate the twist on the left wrist but people still type with their fingers traveling up to the left. KEYTIME teaches ergonomic finger paths with both hands traveling to the center, putting less strain on the left wrist. There are only four keys that use different keys to accomplish this important change. This ergonomic fingering may be used on the standard or split keyboard.
